Salman Khan is the eldest son of screen writer Salim Khan and his wife Salma Khan. He has two brothers, Sohail Khan and Arbaaz Khan. Both of them are actors while Sohail is also a film director and a producer.They have two sisters, Arpita (the youngest of the siblings), and Alvira Agnihotri. Khan's stepmother is actress Helen.Khan has been romantically linked to actresses Sangeeta Bijlani, Somy Ali and Aishwarya Rai in the past.He is currently dating fellow actress and model Katrina Kaif.His turbulent relationship with Aishwarya Rai filled gossip columns.
In 2005, he was accused of threatening Ms. Rai four years back, then his ex-girlfriend, to appear at several events sponsored by the Mumbai Underworld, and boasting of his connections to organized crime. The "evidence" was a tape of a mobile phone call, said to have been recorded in 2001 by the Mumbai police, in which he also had (allegedly) insulted a number of fellow actors. The tape was investigated by the Mumbai Police and tested in the Government's Forensic lab in Chandigarh. It proved to be a fake one. The voices in concern were doctored and not real.
